The Isfahan’s historical market is one of the oldest and most known markets of Isfahan, which has played a key role in Iran’s history and had a great stock in Isfahan’s development as a city.

This market has different entries and one can get to this place in many different ways. But the best way to enter is located in the north part of the Naghsh-e Jahan square, which is known as GHEISARIE threshold.
The making of the market dates back to the years between 1602-1621 in the Safavid as well as Qajar era. But one should say that, although it is not as crowded as Tehran or Tabriz markets, it is one of the biggest Iranian – Islamic markets in the world.
This market had gone through little changes in terms of architecture and the construction among other markets of Iran. This point has been the subject of attention for many national and foreign architects. The threshold of GHEISARIE which is the main entrance of the market is located in the north part of the Naghsh-e Jahan square and contains of the most important paintings of the Safavid era on it. This market in the past were used for the essentials of people, where they used to get together for celebrations, drinking together and music.
