Jame Abbasi mosque also known by the names ‘Soltani’ , ‘Abbasi’ and after the revolution known as ‘Imam mosque‘, is the most important historic mosque in Isfahan and Naqshe Jahan square. It was built in Safavid era by the order of the King Abbas at 1641. It was started at his reign and finished at his successor’s era.
This mosque is the most magnificent representative of Islamic architecture in Isfahan. It shows the evolution of mosques in Iran and this is the reason why it's different from other buildings in Isfahan.
The story of the building started with a vow. King Tahmasb who had just survived the war, decided to build a mosque as thanksgiving, but he didn’t live long enough to honor his vow, so King Abbas decided to build this glorious mosque in honor of his grandfather.
The architecture of this building, like other buildings in Safavid era, has some interesting features. This mosque has 4 minarets, 2 pray halls and the most beautiful adytum among other mosques of that period. In order to save the time and expenses, skilled experts used the seven-colored technique for the mosque’s tiles. Despite using various craftsmen in building’s construction, it has a special unity that will surprise every visitor
