Among the various decoration art of Iran “Kashi kary”(tile work) is one of the oldest and the most popular one.
It's history back to the prehistoric period and it has developed by each dynasty and now we can see the perfect model.
Tiles (glazed brick) was an evolution in decorating because it brings color to the buildings made of stone and bricks. The earliest example of this art back to the 2nd millennium B.C. the object was found on “Susa” and “Chogha Zanbil” hills which is glazed pieces of unbaked brick known as “thousand flowers”.
Imagination and creation of the artist developed this art from one color glazed brick to seven color tiles. different kinds of mosaic work could be found in Isfahan’s buildings and mosques all over Iran.
The turquoise tiles of Isfahan are well known and the beautiful tile still remained after centuries.The reason is the chemical formula that the architecture gained by experience during years. The tile work was used as a decorator and a protector against water and sunlight not only on flat surfaces but on domes and pointed arcs
The design of Isfahan’s tiles is unique and various and same time. The wonderful abstract design of gardens, animals, flowers, geometrical pattern and calligraphy and miniature on tiles was popular.
One of the most beautiful Tile work called “Kashi Moarag" that is made not only by drawing but by making each piece from different tiles and gather them in the final wall, dome, etc.
